subtus glaucis, paniculis ramosis, floribus inajusculis ad apices ramorum
brevium umbellatis, pedicello calycem ovalem superante, fructu ovali,
arillo fere ad basin lacero.

Arbor, ramulis rubescentibus vix rugulosis glabris ; gemmnc vix puberulse. Folia
4-8 poll, longa, 1^-2 lata, petiolo &-poll., margiuibus (in sicco) recurvis. Panicuta
ad axillas foliorum delapsorum 2-3-pollicares, ramis elongatis vel abbrcviatis. Flores
in umbellas subsessiles vel breviter pedicellatas 5-10-floras congesti. Calyx £. poll.
longus, 3-4-lobus, glanduloso-punctatus. AMera 8, biloculares, apice ultra con-
nectivuiu productae, liberse, incurvcc, iu columnam oblougam subsessilem coalitse. '
I/ores fceminei ignoti. Imctus in paniculis J-l-pollicaribus lignosis parum ramosis
subracemosis pauci (interduin subsolitarii), ovoidci, glabri, J poll, longi. Arittus
-profunde lacerus. Cfialasa subterminalis. .

The elongated calyk and anther-column of this species indicate an approach, to
JSiimyristica, and the inflorescence is more simple than in the majority of Pyrrhoste.
The anthers arc, however, Distinctly involute, and lobed at the apex.

tosa(margine in sicco recurva), nervis conspicuis numerosis obliquisrectiusculis pro])e
margmem 'siirsum arcuatis. Paniculce in axillis foliorum delapsorum sittc, 4-6 poll.
longse, divaricato-ramosae, ad ramificatioues bracteis parvis rotundatis dcmum indu-
ratis muniti. Glares in umbclla 3-7, i- poll, longi, pedicello sequilongo suffiilti. Ca-
lyx glaber, ovalis, apice 3-4-lobus. Antherff ia columnam ovaiem subsessilem coa-
litae, elongato-liueares, circa 18, apice longltudine subinsequalcs, columna connective
hiwad apiculata.
1 There is no apiculus of connective beyond the anthers, but as the mass of the
column narrows into a rounded point, some of the anthers arc coutiuued to the apex,
^ile the others stop abruptly d little lowfer.

We have .described this plant from imperfect materials, but it seems very distinct
from aujr of am* other species, as well as from those described by Blame. The B.
